3 Personal Goals

Image
Educators should do their best to keep up with current technology trends that could benefit the classroom as well as trends their students may be interested in so that we will know what they are talking about if conversation presents itself.  I enjoy and use technology, but do not consider myself tech savvy. Luckily my husband is, and he is very helpful in that area. He usually has answers to my technological questions!  One of my goals was to create a display of my digital photos. So many of us are guilty of having thousands of pictures on our phones, myself included. I used to be an avid scrap booker. I used to love to create my own books with photos, stickers, date and time stamps...Then digital became the things and Social Media provided an excellent platform to share media.  For my goal, I really wanted to create a digital scrapbook to highlight a fun adventure we had. This past summer we had season passes to Michigan's Adventure and really got our money's worth! We went a

Role of Teachers in an era of digital learning

Image
What are the emerging trends in educational technology?   There are so many technological tools for learning and trends will continue to change as technology accelerates us into the future. It is so great that there is such a wide variety of ways to help students grow independently and collaboratively through these trends.  How do they reshape the culture of learning and teaching?   I work at the Kent Transition Center where High School students learn various trades. The classroom next to mine is the Precision Machinery Room. They utilize technology in all aspects of their day. I took a quick video of the teacher John Sarver talking about how technology is used in his classroom:  I feel as technology continues to grow and expand, and staff accept and learn it can be used to teach in whole new ways reaching students that may have before been resistant to learning.  What is the role of educators in an era of digital learning? I think that most importantly Educators need to learn

The Importance of New Literacies in and era of Participatory Culture

Image
What is participatory Culture? This modern practice is characterized by a range of elements that define participatory culture: Relatively low barriers to artistic expression and civic engagement Strong support for creating and sharing content with others Some type of informal mentorship whereby what is known by the most experienced is passed along to novices Members who believe that their contributions matter Members who feel some degree of social connection with one another a care what what other people think about what they've created People are stepping away from just being consumers and are becoming contributors and producers when we are talking about creating media. I sub taught recently in a 5th grade classroom where the children had to write a paper about what they wanted to be when they grew up. So many individuals and teams had the dream of being YouTube stars or influencers and why not right...time to take an active roll in what is put out into the world! This was never

Mid-Term Activity (Technology Use and Children: What do we know about children and Technology?)

I have created a canva presentation for this assignment. Enjoy!  https://www.canva.com/design/DAFxpncyt84/rMHe7-Sf_oNjifY9oBTlpQ/edit?utm_content=DAFxpncyt84&utm_campaign=designshare&utm_medium=link2&utm_source=sharebutton

The Difference between experience and 'an' experience from Dewey's perspective

Image
The Difference between experience and 'an' experience from Dewey's perspective We have ordinary experiences every day as we are living our lives. We are continually living and experiencing life. From reading about Dewey's perspective, to me 'an' experience is more complete and memorable.  There are pictures that I look at and remember where, when and why I was there then there are core memories that I just remember periodically based on the experience I had. I feel like those excerpts from life, school and work that are memorable were more of 'an' experience where I was more fully immersed into it.  I think what Dewey means by 'an' experience is how students create and become involved while participating where general experience is just the mundane everyday.  I also thought of a time when I was in high school. We had drama class. My group had to take a well-known song and come up with a short play that was meaningful and sent a message. Our tea

Wise Integration of Technology

These can both be summarized as a check and balance system for teachers and administrators alike. They are designed so that an instructor can look at their lesson involving technology to see where it stands and how it can be improved. When using technology it is vital to ensure the students are gaining understanding and experiences outside of the general teaching strategies. These models help educators be assured that their technology use is wise and useful.  THE R.A.T. Model The RAT Model encourages teachers to look at their technology use and examine if the technology is a Replacement, and Amplification or a Transformation from traditional lessons. This helps increase critical technology decision making.  Are we replacing a traditional lesson with technology meaning both are done the same way

Clark vs. Kozma

Image
CLARK VS. KOZMA Some say the world will end in fire Some say in ice From what I've tasted of desire I hold with those who favor fire But if I had to perish twice I think I'd know enough of fate To say that for destruction Ice is also great And would suffice For some reason as I have been reading, and pondering the Clark vs. Kozma debate on whether or not media will influence learning, this Robert Frost poem came to mind. Upon reading the titles of the assignment I immediately thought I would side with Kozma. The reason why the poem comes to mind is because after reading Clark's argument, I do understand some of his point -- especially about how the delivery of the instruction is what is important. He insists that if learning occurs as a result of exposure to any media then the learning is caused by the instructional method embedded in the media presentation.  While this has merit, as the instructional method is of utmost importance, I agree with Kozma that learning is an
