Upon reading the titles of the assignment I immediately thought I would side with Kozma.   The Difference between experience and 'an' experience from Dewey's perspective We have ordinary experiences every day as we are living our lives. We are continually living and experiencing life. From reading about Dewey's perspective, to me 'an' experience is more complete and memorable.  There are pictures that I look at and remember where, when and why I was there then there are core memories that I just remember periodically based on the experience I had. I feel like those excerpts from life, school and work that are memorable were more of 'an' experience where I was more fully immersed into it.  I think what Dewey means by 'an' experience is how students create and become involved while participating where general experience is just the mundane everyday.  I also thought of a time when I was in high school.  What is participatory Culture? This modern practice is characterized by a range of elements that define participatory culture: Relatively low barriers to artistic expression and civic engagement Strong support for creating and sharing content with others Some type of informal mentorship whereby what is known by the most experienced is passed along to novices Members who believe that their contributions matter Members who feel some degree of social connection with one another a care what what other people think about what they've created People are stepping away from just being consumers and are becoming contributors and producers when we are talking about creating media. I sub taught recently in a 5th grade classroom where the children had to write a paper about what they wanted to be when they grew up.
